The Los Angeles Lakers are now heading home for the offseason after being swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder. It is now time for Los Angeles to seriously evaluate what comes next.
The most heartbreaking part of this year’s playoff run was Luka Doncic being forced to miss the entirety of it. Doncic revealed that it was frustrating dealing with the situation.
“It’s very frustrating. I know some people wanted me back but obviously I wasn’t close to clearing. There was some stuff in the media that went out that wasn’t true. Nobody… those people saw my MRI. If I could be out there I would be 100% everybody in that room knows that. I was sad not to help my team,” Doncic said.
For the Lakers, the offseason also brings questions about LeBron James and whether he could be nearing the end of his career. James made it clear he has not made any decisions yet.
Luka Doncic described it as very frustrating and stated he wished to help his team if he could have played.
Doncic was not close to clearing for play due to health issues, which he confirmed were misrepresented in the media.
The Lakers must evaluate their future strategies and roster decisions following their playoff exit.

“With my future, I don't know," James said after Game 4. "Obviously still fresh from losing. I don't know. I don't know what the future holds for me, obviously. As it stands right now tonight, I've got a lot of time. I'll sit back like I think I said last year after we lost to Minnesota, I'll go back and recalibrate with my family and talk with them and spend some time with them. When the time comes, obviously, you guys will know what I decide to do."
Last summer, Doncic played a major role in recruiting talent to join the Lakers. When asked if he would recruit Austin Reaves and James, he gave a comical response.
“We’ll see. Can’t tell you nothing,” Doncic told the media.
While Doncic did not directly comment on bringing both teammates back, it is clear he would want them in Los Angeles. When healthy, the Lakers showed they could be a dangerous team capable of making a deep playoff run.
However, retaining both Reaves and James could be challenging given their potential contract demands. If Doncic has to prioritize, he would likely push harder to keep Reaves in purple and gold moving forward.
