The troubled launch of the Lamborghini Temerario GT3 has sparked discussions over a potential early Evo package.
The Italian manufacturer currently finds itself in a difficult position, as the all-new GT3 challenger was homologated by the FIA at the end of 2025, effectively freezing its development. So far, the car also appears unable to be brought closer to the front of the field through Balance of Performance adjustments alone.
According to information obtained by Motorsport.com's sister title Motorsport-Total.com, FIA GT3 technical chief Luca Gibello was present at the DTM weekend at Red Bull Ring, fuelling speculation that the governing body is already discussing possible concessions - or even a fast-tracked Evo package.
Such a move is believed to be in Lamborghini’s interest, although there has been no official confirmation from the manufacturer. Even GT3 creator Stephane Ratel, who has traditionally opposed Evo packages on cost grounds, appears open to the idea.
“Usually you have an evolution every three or four years. But you have a problem if a manufacturer comes with a car which is not competitive," Ratel told Motorsport.com.
"The start of the Lamborghini Temerario seems difficult. If you ask me today, can we allow them an evolution or or we may lose them simply? I prefer to grant them an evolution rather than losing a fantastic brand from the GT3 grid."
However, approving such a measure would be far from straightforward
Under FIA regulations, a new GT3 homologation cycle lasts four years, with Evo packages typically permitted only every two years. Exceptions are theoretically possible, but only if approved through all the relevant bodies within the FIA.
Lamborghini would first need to submit a formal request to the FIA’s Technical Working Group (TWG), which consists of manufacturer representatives and FIA technical staff. If the TWG reached consensus, the proposal would then move to the homologation department and finally to the GT Commission, where only a simple majority vote is required. Ratification by the FIA World Motor Sport Council would then likely be a formality.
It is considered unlikely that a Lamborghini application would go through all the legal channels.
Ford, despite initial difficulties keeping up with other GT3 cars, had to wait two years as required before the Mustang officially received an Evo package in 2026. It is therefore hardly conceivable that, for example, Ford representatives would support a Lamborghini application.
The launch is troubled due to the car's inability to improve its performance through Balance of Performance adjustments.

Ratel himself also holds limited influence in the approval process despite overseeing multiple GT championships through SRO Motorsports Group and acting as a BoP service provider, as he does not sit on any of the FIA committees required to authorise such an exception.

That leaves Lamborghini facing mounting pressure to solve the Temerario’s issues internally.
While teams such as Grasser have already begun independent investigations using advanced simulation and test bench equipment, those in charge at the Audi subsidiary are under enormous pressure.
Alongside the GT3 effort, Lamborghini also needs to begin production of the new Temerario Super Trofeo cars, which are due to debut in 2027 and remain commercially important for the marque.
Compounding matters further is the fact that many of the key figures involved in the original development of the Temerario GT3 are no longer with the company. Those now overseeing the project must quickly identify the car’s weaknesses and determine how they can be addressed — potentially with additional funding and external assistance.
"They urgently need to do their homework and try to get data from series organisers, for example, so they know where the errors lie," said a Lamborghini insider. "That way, this project, which was clearly rushed, could still be salvaged."
