LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Lansing Catholic celebrated 11 student-athletes who will be playing at the next level.
This is the third straight year the Cougars have gathered in the gymnasium to honor those who earned a scholarship to play a sport in college.
Twins Avery and Taylor Dunneback will both be playing softball at Grand Valley State next year, and they both enjoyed celebrating their accomplishment with their classmates.
“I think it’s really nostalgic,” Avery said. “Being able to be with our class, and a big group of athletes, I think, just displays our community. I think Lansing Catholic is good at being a tight-knit group, and everyone being here, surrounded by a great group of athletes, even better people, is just great.”
Taylor added, “It’s just great to see the athletics here and see everyone’s hard work pay off. I know all these athletes individually, and I know that they work really hard to be here. It’s nice to see everyone sign and make it official.”
Lansing Catholic dual sport athlete Leland VanAlstine plays football and runs track for the Cougars. He will be taking his talents to the Davenport track and field program and enjoyed being around his peers on Friday for the celebration.
“It’s a great experience,” VanAlstine said. “It’s great to see all my classmates and teammates here, and knowing that they’re going to go on and have a great time and do what they love at the next level.”

Gavin Rabideau – Hope College (Football),

Noah Jungwirth – Mott Community College (Baseball)
