If every Duke player had a TV show named after him, we’d have one called this: Everybody Loves Maliq.
Maliq Brown has been one of the best-loved players in Duke Basketball history. Why is that?
Partly it’s because he’s just such a smart player. As the Duke Chronicle notes in its latest profile, Brown doesn’t have a huge statistical profile. But as Caleb Foster notes here, “[I]t’s almost like a different game [Maliq] plays. I’ve never played with somebody with such an impact on the team.”
That’s really the essence of Brown’s game. He sees things that others don’t. He’s not the most talented player on the team. He may or may not get serious NBA interest.
But he does amazing things on the court. He has great hands. He has brilliant defensive instincts. He’s a wonderful passer. Like Shane Battier, he runs around and makes things happen. And he loves being at Duke.
Put it all together, and that’s why everybody loves Maliq.
