Giancarlo Stanton is listed as a reserve due to right calf tightness, with the Yankees yet to decide on an injured list move. Manager Aaron Boone indicated a final decision will be made before Monday's game against the Rangers.
HOUSTON — The lineup card hanging in the Yankees clubhouse on Sunday morning listed Giancarlo Stanton as a reserve.
Two days after the slugger left Friday night’s game with right calf tightness, the Yankees still were undecided on whether this would turn into an injured list situation.
“No update yet,” manager Aaron Boone said before the Yankees went for a weekend sweep of the Astros and nine-game winning streak. “Obviously, we’re not making a move today, so we’ll see how today unfolds.”
Boone predicted the Yankees would make a final call before Monday night’s series opener against the Rangers in Arlington, Texas.
“I would think we’ll have a decision ahead of (Monday), one way or the other,” he added.
If Stanton goes on the IL, shortstop Anthony Volpe probably won’t take his roster spot.
The over/under for Monday’s Yankees versus Rangers game is sitting at 8 total runs on DraftKings. Our complete DraftKings Sportsbook review provides an in-depth guide on how to use their site.
As Volpe rehabs from offseason labrum surgery, his rehab assignment likely will extend into a third week, Boone said.
After not playing Saturday due to a rainout, Volpe was in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s lineup on Sunday. This was his fourth Triple-A game in six days after four with Double-A Somerset the previous week.
Giancarlo Stanton is currently a reserve player due to right calf tightness, and the Yankees have not yet decided if he will be placed on the injured list.
The article does not specify how Anthony Volpe is affected, but typically, injuries to key players like Stanton can lead to changes in the lineup and batting order.
Manager Aaron Boone stated that a final decision regarding Stanton's injury will be made before Monday night's game against the Rangers.

Volpe, who hit .273 with one homer in his first seven games, is still working on his timing at the plate in a stage of his rehab that resembles spring training.
“He’s still working on that,” Boone said. “It’s only been two weeks of games. He’s still getting there, but I know he feels really good and feels ready to contribute, too.”
Instead of activating Volpe, the Yankees may call up outfielder Jasson Dominguez if Stanton is IL’d.
The Yankees will face three right-handed starters this week in Arlington — Jack Leiter, Jacob DeGrom and Nathan Eovaldi — and the switch-hitting Dominguez could come up to DH.
In Triple-A, Dominguez went into a Sunday doubleheader batting .306 with three homers and 13 RBIs in 22 games. He’s been a better left-handed hitter in the majors, but through Saturday was batting .308 against left-handers and .306 against right-handers.
If Stanton goes on the IL, his stint could be backdated three days. That would make him eligible to return for a May 5 game at Yankee Stadium against the Rangers.
Stanton first felt right calf tightness in the sixth inning of Friday’s game when he jogged from first to second base after Jazz Chisholm walked. Stanton left the game after advancing to third base on a single by J.C. Escarra.
“I know (Saturday) he felt like it was improved,” Boone said. “I think he also feels like he got in front of it a little bit. So, again, we’ll see how it unfolds.”
