A.J. Brown may have an understanding of an imminent trade from the Philadelphia Eagles this summer. His silence on the matter could indicate a strategic approach as the team considers a trade after June 1 to save $40 million in dead cap.
The latest update in the ongoing A.J. Brown trade talk suggested that the three-time All-Pro wide receiver might already have an understanding that a trade is imminent this summer.
That would potentially explain why Brown has been silent on his current standing with the Philadelphia Eagles, despite his frustrations during the 2025 season. If a trade happens, the expectation has been that the Eagles would wait until after June 1, when they would save $40 million in dead cap.
CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones wrote:
"Eagles GM Howie Roseman continues to say Brown is a member of the Eagles, and that is an unassailable fact. But what sources have pointed out to me is that Brown has done nothing publicly to try to punch his way out of Philly, and those sources have theorized that Brown may an understanding that a deal will take place at some point in the summer. Making a public stink does not help his position, especially when he could be on another team by OTAs and minicamp in June anyway."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport continued to echo the same sentiments over the last couple of months regarding Brown's future on Thursday. He sees June 1 as a key date that will ultimately decide Brown's future, and he reiterated that the New England Patriots are viewed as the likeliest landing spot for the star wideout.
"Post-June 1 is a very big date in the A.J. Brown sweepstakes," Rapoport said on The Herd. ...I think most people believe that there's an eventual trade to the Patriots. It has not been done yet. I don't believe that it has been done yet. And I don't know for sure, for sure it's going to happen because life is weird, and that's two months from now. ...But that's probably the most likely scenario."
Recent updates suggest A.J. Brown might be aware of an imminent trade from the Eagles this summer.
A.J. Brown's silence may indicate he understands a trade could happen soon, making public complaints counterproductive.
The trade is expected to occur after June 1, aligning with the Eagles' strategy to save $40 million in dead cap.

The Patriots could use a legitimate No. 1 receiver, and an elite talent like Brown could help take the offense over the top. Along with adding to wide receiver, they'd still have a chance to make improvements along the offensive line and at tight end through the 2026 NFL Draft.
And that doesn't even include all of the defensive moves the team could still make.
If everything falls into place, the Patriots could have a much better roster than the one they made it to the Super Bowl with last season.
