Michigan State basketball is pursuing Alabama transfer center Aiden Sherrell, having recently held a Zoom meeting with him. However, Sherrell also visited Indiana, indicating potential competition for his commitment.
There were a few notable updates on the Spartans' pursuit of a big-time transfer prospect on Sunday.
Michigan State basketball reportedly held a Zoom meeting with Alabama transfer center Aiden Sherrell "within the past few days" according to 247Sports insider Justin Thind. It has been reported this week that Sherrell has been a top target for the Spartans in the transfer portal, with their being mutual interest from him as well.
That's the good news for the Spartans, now for the bad to potentially terrible news. It was reported by Alec Lasley of TheHoosier.com that Sherrell was at Indiana on Sunday for a visit. According to Lasley, Sherrell was on campus on Sunday to meet with the Hoosiers.
Sherrell, who is from Detroit, is one of the top prospects in the transfer portal. He started all 34 games for the Crimson Tide this past season, averaging 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. He was a former McDonald's All-American out of high school and received notable recruiting interest from the Spartans at that time as well.
Since entering the portal, there has been reported interest for Sherrell from numerous teams. This includes Michigan, LSU and Missouri.
So what does this mean for the Spartans? It's unclear at this time but it is clear, at least, that Sherrell remains a highly-coveted prospect on the transfer portal market and it'll take a strong offer from Michigan State to beat out a number of other suitors.
Michigan State has been linked to some other notable transfer portal centers, but it feels like Sherrell is at the top of the list. So it'll be interesting to see how things shake out in the next few days and where he ultimately ends up. If it's at Michigan State, then the Spartans cement themselves as a national championship contender next season.
