Lazio Confirm Mario Gila Suffered a Sprain Against Atalanta
Lazio defender Mario Gila has picked up a slight knock during the Coppa Italia victory over Atalanta on Wednesday.
Following a 1-1 draw on the night and 3-3 on aggregate, the semi-final tie had to be decided by penalty shootouts. The Biancocelesti prevailed 2-1 with one attempt to spare thanks to Edoardo Motta’s extraordinary heroics. Maurizio Sarri’s men thus reached the final against Inter Milan, but Gila’s condition remained a reason for concern among the fans.
The Spaniard was seen struggling after pulling off a timely intervention to stop Nikola Krstovic in his tracks early in the game. The 25-year-old tried to grit his teeth, but he eventually succumbed to the pain in the middle of the season half, making way for Oliver Provstgaard.
The official Lazio website released a statement confirming that the Barcelona native has suffered an ankle sprain.

Following a consultation between the medical staff — Prof. Ivo Pulcini, Prof. Fabio Rodia and club doctor Dr. Italo Leo — S.S. Lazio released the following statement: During the Atalanta–Lazio match, Mario Gila sustained a minor contusive/sprain injury to his ankle. The player has already begun his rehabilitation protocol, and his clinical condition will be reassessed in the coming days.
