Linebacker Sammy Omosigho has committed to the UCLA Bruins, citing head coach Bob Chesney's winning reputation as a key factor. Omosigho, a top transfer portal linebacker, was encouraged to join by his former teammate Ashton Sanders from Oklahoma.

The Bob Chesney effect is alive and well in Westwood. Linebacker Sammy Omosigho was one of the top commitments through the transfer portal for the UCLA Bruins. Omosigho says that Chesney’s ability to win is a major reason why he wound up in Los Angeles.
Omosigho was one of the very top linebackers available this year in the portal. 247 Sports had Omosigho as a four star transfer and the No. 3 linebacker in the portal. New defensive coordinator Colin Hitschler will be glad to have an experienced weapon in Omosigho in the middle of his defense.
“Coach Ches. He’s just a winner wherever he goes,” Omosigho said of his new head coach during his media availability on Thursday. “When I heard of the opportunity to come here. My buddy is here from Oklahoma actually, Ashton Sanders, he gave me a call when I entered the portal.”
Sanders played with Omosigho on the Oklahoma Sooners in 2023 and 2024. Omosigho admits Sanders didn’t need to use too much persuasion before he was ready to sign on with UCLA.
“It didn’t take a lot of convincing actually. Now I’m a Bruin,” Omosigho said of his decision. “I was chasing opportunity when I entered the portal, and I want to be able to showcase whatever I have. I feel like I have the opportunity to do that here.”

Omosigho comes to the Bruins with a ton of experience. Over his three seasons at Oklahoma, Omosigho 37 career games but has only made three starts. Omosigho made 96 tackles, recorded 2.0 sacks defensed four passes in his time with the Sooners.
