Going at Isaiah Hartenstein, LeBron James completed an and-one play on the opening possession. He shimmied his shoulders in celebration. A few possessions later, he knocked down a pull-up 3-pointer as his squad scored the first seven points of the series.
That turned out to be the peak of the night. The Oklahoma City Thunder eventually pulled away in a 108-90 Game 1 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. They open their Round 2 series with a 1-0 lead.
It took a little longer than anticipated, but the Thunder were in control for most of the second half. Eventually, their lead ballooned to 21 points. Even with James taking full advantage of some much-needed rest, the rest of the Lakers failed to show up.
James finished with 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting and six assists. Meanwhile, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had one of his worst playoff outings ever with 18 points and seven turnovers. None of it mattered as the Thunder were ahead for most of the night.

Not the most encouraging sign. Even when Gilgeous-Alexander looks pedestrain, the Thunder found a way to make this mostly non-competitive. James doesn't take solace in the fact that the Lakers made OKC nervous at certain points. Instead, he views the Round 2 series bluntly.
"We're down 1-0. This ainât Shai vs. the Lakers, itâs Lakers vs. the Thunder. We're down 1-0," James said. "That's the main thing. Keep the main thing the main thing, and that's who wins or loses."
Such a waste for the Lakers to throw away one of James' vintage outings. The 41-year-old will only slowly descend as the playoff series moves forward with an every-other-day approach. There's a good chance that this was his best punch and it still wasn't enough to keep it close.
We'll see if the Lakers can make things interesting in Game 2. But it feels like they just don't have the offensive firepower to keep up. At least not without Luka Doncic. Meanwhile, Gilgeous-Alexander will be due for a bounce-back game. If that happens, the Thunder could keep the series chalk with a commanding 2-0 lead.
