PL Predictions: Brighton to send Spurs sliding towards the unthinkable
Brighton is set to face Tottenham this weekend, with predictions leaning towards a Brighton victory.
Lee Sharpe criticized Manchester United's performance in their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United, stating that a three-week break is not a valid excuse. He highlighted the team's mental approach and the absence of key players as significant factors in the loss.
Lee Sharpe bewildered by Man Unitedâs performance vs Leeds United
A three-week break in the middle of the season is ânot an excuseâ for the performance Michael Carrickâs Manchester United side produced against Leeds United last night, says club icon Lee Sharpe.
Speaking exclusively to The Peoples Person courtesy of football betting site BetWright, Sharpe said the Red Devils missed key players, but the real issue in the 2-1 defeat was the mental approach to the game.
âI think they missed Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo,â Sharpe said. âI was surprised he left Mbeumo out because I think heâs been doing pretty well and heâs an outlet with his pace up front and scoring goals.â
âI just donât think they were at it. They didnât pass it well enough. They didnât play quick enough. I donât think the long break between games is doing them any favours. No, but at Old Trafford, youâve got to be prepared, youâve got to be ready and youâve got to start on the front foot. And they just didnât get going at all until the sending off, really.â
We asked whether the extended break was reason enough to explain the lack of intensity.
âItâs not an excuse,â he insisted. âIâm just trying to think of reasons why you would come out at Old Trafford and be so flat and start so slowly and allow Leeds to take the impetus into the game.â
âReally thereâs no reason for it at all, they should be excited after having a break, they should be full of energy, busting a gut, ready to explode out on the pitch and it didnât seem to happen.â
âI donât know about unravel,â the former England man mused. âWe do have to realise that we need some players. I think that was the case under Amorim. I think the formation was a question mark over Amorimâs tenure. But thereâs no doubt we need strength in depth and we need some better players.â
âI think Ugarte struggled,â he said. âYoro was a bit of an issue. But then youâve got Martinez thatâs coming back after a long term injury thatâs not probably up to speed and ready for a start, which can then put Yoro a little bit unsettled after having such a settled centre-half in Harry Maguire.â
âNext to an experienced player thatâs playing really well, youâve got someone thatâs had a long time out and heâs not quite up to the pace of the game. I think that showed last night.â
âPlus I think Calvert-Lewin is an exceptional player on his day and I think he gave Yoro all sorts of problems. So letâs not take away from, from Calvert-Lewin. I think heâs top drawer on his day.â
âDecisions have to be made and Martinez had to come in. He needs minutes on the pitch. But, in these situations you usually get time to bring someone on for half an hour at the end of the game, then play them for an hour.â
âIâm just guessing that two young centre-halves he maybe thought [had] a lack of experience between the two of them. He put a bit of experience in there and it didnât quite work out,â Sharpe explained.

Lee Sharpe expressed bewilderment at Manchester United's performance, emphasizing that the defeat was due to their mental approach rather than the three-week break.
Lee Sharpe mentioned that Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo were key players missing from the Manchester United lineup during the match.
The final score of the match was Manchester United 1, Leeds United 2.
Sharpe believed Mbeumo should have played because he has been performing well and provides pace and goal-scoring ability, which the team lacked in the match.
