It's still early in the 2026 MLB season, but the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking like they are in line for a potential third straight World Series title.
On Saturday night, Texas Rangers starter Jack Leiter gave up four runs in the first inning, including home runs to Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez, and the Dodgers were on their way to a 6-3 win at Dodger Stadium.
Brandon Nimmo gave Leiter and the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a solo home run off of Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan.
Leiter, though, was not able to keep the Dodgers' offense in check.
Ohtani led off with a solo home run, his fourth homer this season. With two outs, Hernandez hammered a three-run homer to left-center field. Will Smith and Freddie Freeman scored ahead of Hernandez, putting the Dodgers up 4-1.
Los Angeles added a run in the fourth inning for a 5-1 lead and Leiter's night was done. He went 3 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and all five Los Angeles runs to that point. They were all earned while Leiter walked four and struck out four.
Nimmo hit his second homer of the game, a two-run shot that brought Josh Jung in, to cut the Dodgers' lead to 5-3.
In the home half of the eighth inning, Andy Pages' RBI single brought Hernandez home and gave Los Angeles a 6-3 lead.
Andrew McCutchen came to the plate with runners on first and second with one out. Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen struck McCutchen out, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts called upon Alex Vesia to get the final out. Vesia got the job done for his first save this season and it was another victory for Los Angeles.
Sheehan went six innings for the Dodgers, giving up four hits and three runs (all earned), walking one, and striking out six. He got the win, upping his record this season to 2-0. Leiter falls to 1-1 with the loss.
The Rangers went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position against the Dodgers.
With the loss, the Rangers fall to .500 on the season at 7-7. As for the Dodgers, they are now 11-3 and in first place in the National League West Division.
And the Rangers? They are in first place in the American League West Division.
The Rangers wrap up their three-game series against the Dodgers on Sunday. After the game, Texas heads up to Sacramento, Calif., for a four-game series against the Athletics.
