Leon Goretzka âfired upâ for Bayern Munich home match against PSG after scoring Bundesliga brace
Bayern Munich brace-scorer Leon Goretzka declared himself fired up for Wednesdayâs Champions League return leg against PSG after Saturdayâs Bundesliga draw. The German record champions â after falling behind for the third consecutive match on-the-spin â established themselves as true âcomeback kingsâ as their record-breaking 2025/26 season draws to a close.
In last weekendâs Bundesliga fixture against Mainz, Vincent Kompanyâs Bayern battled back from a 3-0 halftime deficit to pull out a 3-4 away win. In Tuesdayâs Champions League encounter for the ages, the Bavarians didnât allow a 5-2 PSG lead to demoralize them. Two unanswered goals against the French Champions leave Kompany and the rest of the team confident they can reach the UCL Final by winning the return leg at home.
Injuries and Kompanyâs Champions-League squad rotations led to Goretzka donning the captainâs armband and working as a No. 10 last week against Mainz. This week, Goretzka started as a No. 6, but once again had to move up front when an experiment involving using his German national team midfield partner Aleksandar Pavlovic as a winger didnât work out.

Goretzka â who will be departing Bayern after eight seasons at the end of the season â looks ready to close his FCB career out on the highest possible note.
The Bochum-native hopes to complete his second âtriple-crownâ season with Bayern since playing under Hansi Flick during the 2019/20 campaign. Goretzka has already made Bayern history as the goal-scorer who officially enabled Bayern to break the all-time Bundesliga scoring record a few weeks ago. There may be still more history for him to make.
âThatâs our focus from now on,â Goretzka told DAZNwhen looking ahead to Wednesdayâs monster match. âThe guys are fully ready. Iâm really excited; I think things are going to be on fire here on Wednesday. Iâm really looking forward to the game, just like all of us. We just want to make it to the final.â
