LeSean McCoy criticized the Jacksonville Jaguars' decision to limit Travis Hunter to primarily playing cornerback and occasionally as a receiver. He believes Hunter's talent should not be restricted to just one position.

JacksonvilleĀ Jaguars traded two first-round picks to jump three spots in the 2025 draft to select a player who could be a superstar on both sides of the football. Now the Jaguars may be asking Hunter to stop being the player they paid a premium to acquire.
The Jaguars are planning to use Hunter as a full-time corner and occasional receiver entering the 2026 season.
This development rubbed the two-time Super Bowl winner and former All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy the wrong way.
"H**L NO! Travis Hunter is so special!" McCoy said on the Speakeasy Talk Show. "I don't like Travis Hunter only playing one position."
It is worth noting that McCoy held this belief long before Jacksonville selected Hunter second overall. He even compared Hunter to Charles Woodson, calling him a generational talent who must play multiple positions.
Hunter quoted the tweet by Ian Rapoport announcing the news on Sunday, writing, "Now who told you this?" Hunter seems to be far from agreeing with the decision, especially since GM James Gladstone told reporters at the end-of-season news conference that Jacksonville planned on using him at both positions.
However, there are some nuances in the situation working against Hunter. The Jaguars' star prospect spent seven games in his rookie season before tearing his LCL, totaling 486 snaps between offensive (324) and defensive (162) units.
This injury ended his season and confirmed what many feared before the draft. Playing on both sides of the football is extremely tough physically, and one bad landing proved it.
The Jaguars will likely limit Hunter's practice time at the upcoming OTAs. Besides, Jacksonville added another receiver to its roster during Hunter's absence in 2025, signing Jakobi Meyers from Las Vegas. Parker Washington had a [decent second year](https://www.jaguars.com/team/players-roster/parker-washington/#:~:text=Appeared%20in%2016%20games%20(seven,107%20yards%20and%20one%20touchdown), racking up 847 yards and five touchdowns. The need for Hunter at wide receiver is less pressing than a year ago.
In other words, Jacksonville seems to be moving away from the very reasoning that justified Hunter's selection. According to Pro Football Focus' college stats, Hunter received a slightly better grade on the defensive side of the ball at Colorado. Cornerback is probably his best position.
Nevertheless, McCoy's opinion rings true. You cannot trade two first-round picks for a player and then use him like everyone else.
LeSean McCoy feels that Travis Hunter's exceptional talent should not be confined to a single position, arguing that he is too special to limit his role.
Travis Hunter is expected to play primarily as a cornerback with occasional appearances as a receiver in the 2026 season.
