Tensions escalate at Real Madrid as Mbappe saga reaches a critical point.
Liverpool is reportedly in the running to sign Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, amid increasing transfer speculation. The discussions highlight the uncertainty surrounding center backs at the club.
Lewis Steele: Liverpool are in the race to sign Premier League defender
On Media Matters for Anfield Index, Dave Davis and Lewis Steele discussed the growing transfer noise around Marcos Senesi, Liverpool and Spurs, with the Bournemouth defender placed into a conversation shaped by value and centre back uncertainty.
Davis introduced the subject by saying the story had âkind of went deadâ and that âeveryone expected it to be Spurs possibly,â before adding that âthis one keeps coming up through numerous journalists.â He then cited another update: âAlex Crook even added the other day that Liverpool are keeping tabs on Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.â
Davis added that it would be âa free moveâ and that âobviously a deal could depend on Ibouâs future as well.â For Liverpool, the Senesi debate appears tied to both opportunity and squad planning.
Steele was careful not to overstate Liverpoolâs position. His first response placed Spurs at the front of the queue. âYeah, I think the Spurs angle is,â he said, before explaining: âI think what I was told is Spurs are sort of top of the list there.â
The discussion did not present Senesi to Liverpool as a completed move. Steele made clear that Spurs remain central to the picture, while Liverpoolâs interest sits in the background.
Still, he did acknowledge why Liverpool would look. âBut Liverpool have been looking at it because he is free,â Steele said. âSo I think it makes sense for them to maybe do it if heâs a free agent.â
The conversation then moved towards Richard Hughes and Bournemouth. Steele said: âObviously, we know Richard Hughes has a good relationship with Bournemouth.â He added that Hughes âwill have a good relationship with Senesi as well because he obviously signed him at Bournemouth.â
Liverpool's interest in Marcos Senesi stems from ongoing uncertainty regarding their center back options.
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are the main teams reportedly interested in signing Marcos Senesi.
The transfer status of Marcos Senesi is still developing, with increasing media attention on his potential move to Liverpool.

Steele also noted another possible connection, saying: âHughes signed him from Feyenoord as well.â On whether there was anything deeper, he was cautious: âSo I donât know if thereâs anything in that.â
There was also a brief Slot link, with Steele saying: âI presume him and Slot were there at the same time, I think.â He added that âthere might have been links way backâ when Slot first came to Liverpool.
Steeleâs clearest summary was: âItâs certainly one to keep an eye on but nothing more than that at this stage.â
Davis then widened the point, asking: âSenesi, Van Hecke, if Ibou renews, are they needed?â Steele responded by linking the issue to Liverpoolâs defensive depth and Premier League readiness. He asked âhow long will it take Jacquet to get accustomed to the Premier League?â and noted that Liverpool may have âtwo lads who have never played in the Prem.â
That is where Senesiâs profile came back into focus. Steele said Liverpool could be thinking: âSenesi, free agent, experienced, good on the ball.â His final judgement was balanced: âMaybe it makes sense financially to do that one,â before adding, âwe donât know just yet.â
For now, Senesi, Liverpool and Spurs remain connected by possibility rather than certainty.
