Ligue 1 Plus subscriber figures drop as Nasser Al-Khelaifi slams LFP Media on international broadcasting rights
According to a report from **L’Équipe,**the subscriber figures for Ligue 1 Plus, the league-owned broadcaster of France’s top-flight, have dropped. However, a rebound is expected.
L’Équipeunderstands that the number of people subscribed to Ligue 1 Plus, launched last summer following the abrupt and premature end of the DAZN deal, has decreased to around one million. Cause for concern for Ligue 1 clubs, perhaps, although that figure is projected to rise by around 200,000 to 300,000, due to the ninth game of the gameweek, currently broadcast by BeIN Sports, moving to Ligue 1 Plus for next season.
With the price of the subscription going up as a result (€19,90 per month), LFP Media have sought to reassure clubs that they will receive around the same amount of income from broadcasting rights as they did last year, despite the exit of BeIN Sports and the final payment of DAZN coming through this season.
These figures were announced during the administrative council at the LFP on Wednesday. Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was present at the meeting and voiced his displeasure at the lack of development of broadcast rights revenue abroad.
The PSG president called on LFP Media to do more to generate revenue from the broadcast of Ligue 1 in certain foreign territories. No countries specifically were cited. In the UK, French football is no longer broadcast on TV but rather through an online platform called the Ligue 1 Pass.

The drop in Ligue 1 Plus subscribers is attributed to the transition from the DAZN deal and increased subscription costs.
Ligue 1 Plus currently has around one million subscribers, down from previous figures.
Next season, Ligue 1 Plus is expected to gain an additional 200,000 to 300,000 subscribers due to the ninth game of the gameweek moving from BeIN Sports to their platform.
