And despite, or maybe because of, both those facts, he's putting his own two feet forward to try and earn a chance in the NFL, potentially with the Detroit Lions.
McGee was outside the Lions' facility with a sign on Monday to try to garner attention.

On the sign, you can see some of McGee's Arena Football League stats. He was a major defensive playmaker in the AFL.
In his college career at Eastern Michigan, he totaled just one career interception across five seasons to go along with 10 passes defensed.
Players develop at different rates, though, and maybe McGee was just a late bloomer.
He's not just seeking to sign with the Lions. That just happens to be where he is and where he felt he could gain some attention.
Surely, McGee would take a chance with any NFL team that will listen.
Football coaches often respect players willing to go the extra mile. There certainly may be a few guys who watch McGee's film on Monday to see if there's anything there to be pursued.
Whether or not McGee gets a contract, he can rest a little easier knowing that he put himself out there and tried to make his dream a reality.
