Lions send several to TAPPS State finals

SAN ANTONIO — Last week, Alpha Omega Academy saw several athletes compete at the TAPPS 3A South Regional Track and Field Meet.
AOA will see its school represented in 10 events at the state meet at Waco Midway High School.
The Lions saw two regional champions with Wyatt Plake taking first in the 110M Hurdle and Hudson Ramey taking first in the high jump.
Plake finished the 110M hurdle with a time of 16.27, which was a new personal best.
Ramey cleared the high jump bar of 6’ 2”, a personal best, for a first-place finish.
Plake also qualified in the 300M hurdle with a time of 42.34 and in the triple jump with a recorded leap of 40’ 4.75” to round out his state events.
To round out state qualifiers on the boys’ side, Kaleb Neugebauer took silver in the shot put with a throw of 44’ 4” for a personal best.
On the girls’ side of things, Alpha Omega Academy will see its 4X100M relay team with Eva Nino, Peyton Nichols, Madison Tran and Hannah Meers run one more time this season. The quad finished the regional in third place with a time of 53.73 seconds.
Nichols will also run in the 200M race after a third-place finish with a time of 27.92 seconds and the long jump. Nichols leaped 14’ 8.25” for the bronze medal.
Nicole Valles will compete in the discus after taking fourth place with a throw of 90’ 8”, and Trinittee Franklin rounds out the state qualifiers with a 30’ 8” throw in the shot put.
The TAPPS 3A state championship will be held from May 8-9 at Waco Midway High School.
