LIV Golf's 2026 season continued Thursday with the start of LIV Golf Mexico City at Club de Golf Chapultepec.
The event is being played amid rampant speculation over the last few days that the league could be shutting down operations as its main financial backer, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, appears to be dramatically shifting its spending strategy.
The broadcast began with commentators Arlo White and David Feherty, both of whom are on LIV Golf's payroll, taking a minute to dismiss any rumors that the circuit might be closing up shop in the near future.
"We're delighted to report that the reports of the imminent demise of the LIV Golf league were, in fact, greatly exaggerated," White said. "I had a good chat with LIV CEO Scott O'Neil in the last hour, he was very confident about the future, very bullish about the future of the LIV Golf league."
White said LIV Golf will air an interview with O'Neil during Thursday's broadcast before he kicked it over to Feherty, who attacked media members who reported that LIV Golf might see its funding pulled soon.
"I've been in the professional game for 50 years now and I don't think I've ever had two or three days where there was more absolute nonsense spread out," Feherty said. "There are still some writers and broadcasters that take pride in their work, but this generation has spawned fast typists that consider themselves to be experts, and evidently, they're not."
White added, "It must be exhausting trying to will the LIV Golf league out of existence. Just take a day off, everybody. Enjoy the golf."
Soon after the exchange, the stream went dark on both the LIV Golf YouTube page and the Fox Sports App.

In the short term, it appears that LIV Golf is not shutting down. After a full day of online speculation from fans and media personalities that LIV could be closing up shop as soon as this week, the league's employees received a message from CEO Scott O'Neil on Wednesday saying that the 2026 season "continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle."
David Feherty dismissed rumors of LIV Golf's demise, expressing confidence in the league's future.

LIV officials were allegedly summoned to an emergency meeting in New York, according to a report in The Telegraph, amid speculation fueled by social media from the night before that the league could be on the verge of shutting down operations. But, Gabby Herzig of The Athletic reported that her publication visited the LIV offices in New York and were told O'Neil and his team were in Mexico City.
This is a question that does not yet have a firm answer. The Saudi Public Investment Fund seems to be shifting its spending strategy, which some speculate is a result of ongoing military conflict in the Middle East. On top of the rumors regarding LIV Golf's funding, the New York Times reported Thursday morning that the PIF has sold its soccer club, Al-Hilal. Reuters reported that LIV Golf is 100 percent funded through the rest of the 2026 season, which has nine events remaining, but questions remain about the league's future beyond this year.
