Joe Gomez has admitted his Liverpool future remains unclear as he enters the final year of his contract.

The defender, who turns 29 on the final weekend of the season, has been at Anfield since 2015 and is currently the club’s longest serving player. His service, versatility and experience remain valued, but the landscape around him is shifting.

Asked about what comes next, Gomez said: “No. I think anything can happen. I don’t know is the honest answer.

“I’ve only got a year left so I don’t know, but whatever is meant to be will be, I guess.

“But I’m so grateful to have had this time here at this club. I’ll always be grateful to have had 11 years at a place like this. All I can do is be thankful and we’ll see.”

Liverpool Defensive Changes

Liverpool are preparing for changes in defence this summer. Jeremy Jacquet is due to arrive from Rennes in a £60m deal, while Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley are expected to return from serious knee injuries.

That could increase competition for minutes across the back line, particularly with Gomez having started only 15 times in 31 appearances this season.
