With Diomande under contract until 2030 Leipzig will be confident of extracting a mammoth fee for the winger - who can play either side of the frontline.
Leipzig bosses see Diomande as a €100m (£87m) player - and haven’t ruled out keeping the African star for another season. Trusted Liverpool reporter Dominic King has now weighed in on the transfer saga - confirming the club’s interest.
He does however admit that the price would need to come down before Richard Hughes was tempted to make a move.
“Yan Diomande, the €100m-rated teenager at RB Leipzig, is being tracked carefully,” the report for the Telegraph reads.
“Liverpool have done due diligence and spoken to the Ivory Coast international’s advisors but that is only standard procedure – no decision has been made about launching a move, particularly not at that huge valuation.”
Having spent £125m on Alexander Isak and another £116m on Florian Wirtz last summer - not to mention the £69m that went to Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike - Liverpool may well be seeking a cut-price move for a wide man this summer instead.
