Emotional Lampard: Coventry promotion 'right up there' in my achievements

Liverpool is reportedly shifting away from their current strategy under Arne Slot due to inconsistent performance this season. The team may adopt a new approach if a promising new signing is secured.
Liverpool look ready to ditch Arne Slot plan with brilliant new signing
Liverpool appear set to move on from the major Arne Slot plan. That's if a brilliant new signing does arrive.
Liverpool have had roughly the same gameplan since Arne Slot took over in 2024. In fact, the desire to rigidly stick to that gameplan is a massive reason why the Reds have been unable to snap into consistent form this season.
Because that gameplan is not working. It did for the majority of last season but this time around? Teams simply know how to get the better of it.
And that’s why Liverpool may be best-suited to changing things up for their next campaign. It doesn’t appear that Slot feels he can alter the gameplan enough this season but the summer offers opportunity for that.
Perhaps the most interesting way to do that is up top. Liverpool signed both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak last summer - two centre-forwards who both expect to start regularly.
It’s difficult to imagine both remaining happy should the team continue to play with just one striker, in other words. But maybe Liverpool are moving away from that idea.
Reports, such as from CaughtOffside, suggest they’re open to signing another striker, this time Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth. The 19-year-old is highly unlikely to to sign for Liverpool if they want him to be third-choice for a one-man position but if they’re playing two up top? Suddenly there’s plenty of game time.
This could be the clearest indication yet that Liverpool are willing to try something new. It feels long overdue.
Ligue 1 Performance and Breakout Season
Eli Junior Kroupi has enjoyed a stellar 2025–2026 campaign with FC Lorient, further cementing his reputation as one of France’s most clinical young finishers. As of April 13, 2026, the 19-year-old forward has recorded 14 goals and four assists in 28 Ligue 1 appearances. Often compared to a young Kylian Mbappé due to his explosive pace and composure in one-on-one situations, Kroupi has been the driving force behind Lorient’s push for a top-six finish. His ability to drift from the left wing into central positions has made him a nightmare for defenders, maintaining a conversion rate of 22%, which ranks among the highest in the league for players under 21.
Transfer Speculation and Elite Interest
Kroupi’s prolific form has ignited a fierce transfer battle ahead of the summer 2026 window. Real Madrid and Manchester City have reportedly sent scouts to monitor his progress, but Liverpool is currently viewed as the frontrunner for his signature. Reports as of April 10 suggest that Liverpool sees Kroupi as a long-term tactical fit for Arne Slot’s system, potentially following in the footsteps of previous Ligue 1 exports. While Lorient has placed a €60 million valuation on the teenager, Kroupi is reportedly eager for a new challenge. His recent debut for the France senior national team, where he scored as a substitute in a 3–1 win over Belgium in March, has only increased his market value and the urgency for interested clubs to strike a deal.
Liverpool is considering abandoning the Arne Slot plan due to their inability to achieve consistent performance this season, as teams have figured out how to counter their strategy.
Arne Slot's gameplan was effective last season but has failed to yield consistent results this season, contributing to the team's struggles.
Liverpool may change their strategy if they secure a brilliant new signing that could enhance their performance and effectiveness on the field.
