Liverpool âready for PSGâ after Rio Ngumoha downs Fulham
Liverpool boss Arne Slot says his side are ready to take on PSG in the UEFA Champions League after completing an impressive victory over Fulham.
Rio Ngumoha was the star of the show after being handed a surprise start at Anfield on Saturday evening. The teenager cut inside before unleashing a fantastic strike for the opener before being involved in the buildup for Mo Salahâs goal.
It was a much needed result for the Reds after suffering consecutive defeats to Manchester City and PSG, boosting their hopes of finishing inside the top five. They currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, four points ahead of Chelsea, who have a game in hand.
âFor sure I am happier than after losing 4-0 and 2-0,â Slot told Sky Sports. âA good first half, we were already close a few times, and then Rio had a good moment. Just before that I felt Fulham were having a good game so it was really helpful Rio had a one v one moment and scored a great goal.
âAnd afterwards Mo finished off well. Then youâre quite comfortable at half-time.â
At 17 years and 225 days of age, Ngumoha became the third youngest player to start and score in a Premier League game after Wayne Rooney (17 years and 51 days) and Cesc Fabregas (17 years and 113 days).
âOne of his [Rioâs] strengths is dominating the one v one,â Slot said of the youngster. âWeâve seen this season heâs getting more and more playing time. Thatâs also what he deserves because when he plays he does really well. Heâs influencing the game like he did today and like he did against Wolves. Today he even scored which is vital in football because goals mean a lot.
âItâs a better place than it was two or three days ago or a week ago. But itâs also not that after we win all of a sudden everything is good again.
âWeâve played many games like this this season but theyâve not always led to a win. Weâve deserved to win, not by a big margin, but we deserved to win.â

Liverpool now look ahead to Tuesday night, when they welcome PSG to Anfield needing to overturn a two-goal deficit from the first leg.
âI was really happy with a clean sheet,â Slot continued. âThatâs what you need in almost every game. Definitely we need that on Tuesday. Itâs a big step going into the week not only for PSG but also Everton at the end of the week. There are only two days of rest.
âThe fans will be behind us and the players will give everything they have to turn things around. I can tell you we are up for it, weâre ready for it, and Anfield will be ready for it.â
