Liverpool's priority revealed as summer transfer plans 'accelerate'

At times this season it has been hard to tell what direction Liverpool are heading in.

The Reds spent over £400 million last summer, but rather than improving on a title winning campaign the team now appears to be deep in a transition period.

The sales of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez along with the tragic passing of Diogo Jota left Liverpool without a recognised striker, but Hugo Ekitike and later Alexander Isak were added to fill that gap.

Both strikers have faced massive injury setbacks in their debut campaigns at Anfield, with Ekitike now likely to be out for the remainder of 2026, and the centre of Liverpool’s attack is starting to look like an area that needs to be addressed this summer.

Seeing as the Reds’ current strike partnership cost close to £200m, signing a third striker this summer isn’t something many would have predicted a few months ago.

The injuries suffered by both Isak and Ekitike have changed Liverpool’s plans though and now a third striker is on the agenda for the summer.

That’s according to a report from Football Insider, that claims the club are looking to add another option to bolster Slot’s options up front.
