Liverpool told to back âreally goodâ Arne Slot despite recent struggles
After the departure of Jurgen Klopp in 2024, Liverpool were at a fork in the road. After years of success under Klopp, they turned to Arne Slot in a move that raised eyebrows amongst the supporters.
But Slot silenced his critics immediately as he landed the Premier League title in his debut season. However, the title defence has been disastrous, with the Reds sitting 4th in the table and knocked out of every competition.
This is despite spending a record-breaking ÂŁ450m on new signings last summer, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike all arriving.
Now, with just three games remaining, Liverpool face a pivotal decision over Slotâs future with sections of the fanbase massively frustrated by performances this season.
Dutch coach Rene Meulensteen spoke to Anfield Index and shared his thoughts on Slotâs future at AnfieldâŠ
âI would stick with him [Arne Slot],â began Meulensteen, âI know him personally really well and he is a really good coach.â
âHeâs got a good view of things, but he has to buy the right pegs to put in the right holes,â said Meulensteen.
Itâs a fair observation that Liverpoolâs summer signings are yet to showcase their full ability. ÂŁ125m signing Alexander Isak has been plagued by injuries since his arrival, whilst Florian Wirtz continues to search for consistency despite some really good performances.
Hugo Ekitike has been the brightest spark, with 11 goals in the Premier League, but has just suffered a ruptured achilles and could miss nine months of action.

It feels bizarre that we are in this situation just 12 months after he won the Premier League. However, Meulensteen belives that he must prove himself again next season if the club do stick by him.
âIt needs to click straight away at the start of next season,â said Meulensteen, âIf they get off to a bumpy start, then people will jump right back on him.â
âEveryone knows that Xabi Alonso is available and hanging around too, which hasnât helped,â said Meulensteen.
The former Liverpool midfielder has been available since being sacked by Real Madrid earlier this season. The Spaniard is keen for a swift return to management, but reports claim that Liverpool arenât considering him as an option at the moment.
