Liverpool should pull out all the stops to entice France international Michael Olise to Anfield as Mohamed Salah's successor this summer, according to Jermaine Pennant. Salah is set to depart the club at the end of the season, leaving an enormous void to fill.
The Egyptian superstar has managed 257 goals in 440 appearances for Liverpool across the last nine seasons and may have already featured for the last time, after sustaining a hamstring injury over the weekend. The pressure is firmly on Liverpool's recruitment team to deliver, following last summer's transfer window failing to produce the desired results.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has already acknowledged it is "probably impossible" to find a direct replacement for Salah, though RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande is among the names under consideration.

Former Reds star Jermaine Pennant believes Liverpool should pursue Bayern Munich's Michael Olise as Salah's replacement -Credit:Ibrahim Ezzat/NurPhoto via Getty Images
Olise has posted a remarkable 20 goals and 29 assists in 47 appearances for Bayern Munich this season, including their stunning 5-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night in the Champions League semi-final. He is contracted to Bayern until 2029, having made the move from Crystal Palace in 2024 for a reported £51million, yet Pennant is adamant his former club should take a shot, via The Mirror.
After witnessing Olise net a spectacular goal in the thrilling game, he tweeted: "Liverpool go out and get Olise right now, at all costs. There is your replacement for Mo Salah. AT ALL COSTS. Any amount plus Gakpo."
Cody Gakpo has faced considerable criticism from Liverpool supporters this season, having recorded only eight goals and six assists across 48 appearances in all competitions. He remains under contract at Anfield for another four years.
It's safe to say that Pennant's bold suggestion didn't resonate well, with numerous responses questioning why Olise would consider swapping Bayern for Liverpool at this moment, given the German giants have just clinched the Bundesliga title comfortably and remain in contention for the Treble.
Bayern certainly have no intention of parting with one of their key assets either. When asked recently if Olise would be remaining, Bayern chief executive Max Eberl stated: "Absolutely." And when pressed if that stance would hold even with a substantial bid arriving, he responded: "Yes. We're not having a second to think about anything."
Pennant's appeal comes after Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard offered high praise for the Frenchman. "When you are a full-back playing up against a winger, they normally have a weak side and you show them one way or another, depending what foot they are," he said on TNT Sports.
"The problem with him is he can go both ways, his right foot is just as strong as his left. You really want to show him on his right foot because that's probably his weaker side, but you see some of the assists he's getting, some of the finishes with his right foot. If you leave him in one-versus-one situations, you are in major trouble."
