Liverpool will fix Trent Alexander-Arnold mistake with bargain €25m deal

It now looks like Liverpool’s right-back crisis can only be solved in the transfer market with sporting director Richard Hughes shaping up to conclude a deal.

One of the most prominent links has been to Denzel Dumfries.

The 30-year-old Inter Milan right-back is available for only €25m owing to a clause in his contract - which runs until 2028.

Liverpool are reported to have tried for the Netherlands’ international back in January but the deal ultimately fell down.

Trusted club insider Dominic King has now dropped Dumfries’ name once again - adding that this would be a transfer that ticks a lot of boxes for the Premier League champions.

“Liverpool are aware of a release clause in Denzel Dumfries’s contract at Inter Milan,” his report reads in the Telegraph.

“The Netherlands International, who is a close friend of Van Dijk, was discussed as an option for Liverpool in January but circumstances meant the deal never went any further than interest.

“Dumfries has pace, experience and would bring a winning mentality, having helped Inter dominate Serie A.

“He has played more conventionally as a wing-back but he is versatile and if Liverpool pursued him, it would make a lot of sense.”
