While the Texas Longhorns have been busy preparing for the 2026 college football season, they have also been building for the future. On Saturday, that continued when they offered three-star recruit Isaiah Taylor. The Texas native has been a popular player for teams in need of help on defense and caught the Longhorns eye.
Although Texas would get a boost with Taylor in the mix, they do face competition. He has also received offers from Arizona, Baylor, Stanford, Houston, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Georgia State, and Texas State. That list should continue to grow the longer Keller Central High stays on the market.
The heavy interest in Taylor's services comes as no surprise, given how he is viewed by scouts. Currently, the Longhorns' target is ranked as the 14th-best cornerback in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 18th-best player from Texas and the 149th player in the nation.
During his high school career, Taylor has been a dual threat, also getting some snaps at quarterback. While Taylor has made headlines for his play on defense, his athleticism has allowed the Chargers to use him in a variety of ways. At Texas, the focus would most likely be on defense, where he would look to frustrate offensive coordinators on a weekly basis.
At the moment, head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff are still looking for their first commitment from the 2028 class. They have been busy on the recruiting front, connecting with some of the best players on the board. That includes four-star recruits Neimann Lawrence, Michah Rhodes, Brysen Wright, Braxton Rein, R'Monie Edwards, and Jalanie George. Adding any of those prospects would give the Longhorns a boost.
Over the next few months, Taylor will be a player to watch as he weighs all his options. The next step for Texas will be getting Taylor to campus for a visit, so that he can get a preview of what his future as a Longhorn could hold.
