Cowboys dispute report that Steelers were angered by trade down with Eagles
Cowboys dispute Steelers' claims of anger over draft trade with Eagles
The Los Angeles Rams selected QB Ty Simpson 13th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, despite Matthew Stafford's recent MVP season. Head coach Sean McVay has not ruled out signing Jimmy Garoppolo, indicating flexibility in their quarterback strategy.
Now that the 2026 NFL Draft is over, it’s easy to say the Los Angeles Rams had the biggest shocker of the weekend, making Alabama QB Ty Simpson the 13th overall pick in the first round. After all, Matthew Stafford is coming off an MVP season. But he’s also 38 years old, and entering the final year of his contract.
The Rams now have three quarterbacks on the roster, and the team has made fairly significant investments in each one. Stafford is entering the final season of his two-year $84 million contract, Simpson was a first-round pick, and third-stringer Stetson Bennett was a fourth-round selection in 2023.
One would assume that Rams general manager Les Snead is more than content with his new-look QB room. But that may not be the case.
According to Rams head coach Sean McVay, the team still isn’t ready to close the door on signing Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason.
“I wouldn’t say that,” McVay said. “I don’t want to say completely closed, but I would say this. You guys know how much I appreciate Jimmy and what he could really do. I always viewed him as a starting-caliber quarterback. I wouldn’t say he’d ever close it, but by being able to do what we did last night, it probably lessens the level of urgency for that position. I certainly would never say never in anything like that.”
He’s spent the past three seasons with the Rams, and the team is clearly comfortable with what he adds to the locker room and practice field. There have also been rumors that Jimmy G is considering retirement this offseason, yet the Rams would clearly be happy to have him back in L.A.
