LSU baseball's starting pitcher Casan Evans was scratched from the game against Mississippi State due to arm discomfort. This loss adds to LSU's struggles as they face a critical point in their NCAA Tournament hopes.
LSU baseball lost to Mississippi State on Friday afternoon, dropping its seventh straight SEC contest. LSU is 24-19 overall and 6-12 in conference play. LSU's NCAA Tournament hopes are in serious jeopardy as the final stretch of the regular season approaches.
The run of bad luck continued for LSU on Friday. It wasn't just the loss -- but Friday starting pitcher Casan Evans was scratched moments before first pitch. An LSU team already bitten by the injury bug can't afford to lose its ace. Earlier this week, star outfielder Jake Brown was ruled out for the year along with starting pitcher Cooper Moore.
After the game, LSU head coach Jay Johnson said Evans experienced "arm discomfort" when warming up. Johnson refrained from giving any sort of timetable or revealing whether Evans could pitch in the Mississippi State series.
If Evans misses extended time, its a critical loss for LSU at a time when the Tigers can't afford to lose another starter. Evans 2026 has been inconsistent, but when he's on, he's one of the best pitchers in the SEC. Evans' 76 strikeouts rank No. 8 in the SEC. Walks have been an occasional issue with Evans giving away 26 free passes.
Mississippi State beat LSU in walk-off fashion on Friday evening. LSU returns to action on Saturday with William Schmidt taking the mound.
