Brown was the best hitter in a struggling LSU lineup. He was hitting .309 with an OPS of 1.047. Brown totaled 16 home runs and 49 RBI in his 2026 campaign -- both marks rank top five in the SEC.
LSU is 23-18 and in jeopardy of missing the NCAA Tournament. LSU is in must-win mode with only a few weekends left to boost the RPI. LSU was facing a tall task before losing its top slugger; now the odds are stacked against Jay Johnson's club. LSU has struggled to find consistency at the plate all year. Brown and Derek Curiel have been LSU's only two reliable hitters.
And while Curiel is productive, he's not a match for Brown's power. Brown was, by far, the most complete hitter on this team.
The news of Brown's injury comes less than 24 hours after LSU starting pitcher Cooper Moore was declared out for the year by Johnson. Moore hasn't pitched since March 20. Hitters Seth Dardar and Trent Caraway also continue to deal with injuries.
This likely marks the end of Brown's career at LSU. He's draft eligible this year and considered one of the top college outfield prospects. It would be a shock to see Brown back in Baton Rouge next year. If this is it, Brown leaves LSU as a three-year contributor who played a key role on LSU's 2025 College World Series-winning team.
Next up for LSU is a midweek game vs New Orleans on Tuesday night before a road trip to Mississippi State this weekend.
