LSU Tigers get injury update on QB Sam Leavitt after spring football

There is a lot of new in Baton Rouge this year, with Lane Kiffin coming in this offseason and taking over the LSU Tigers program, bringing with him a long list of top-ranked transfer portal players who are anticipated to make an immediate impact.

One of those transfers, quarterback Sam Leavitt, has been with the team for a while, but has been unable to practice as he continues to recover from a foot injury suffered last season. He just recently started running again, after having pins removed from his foot, and according to Kiffin, things are on track for him to return to the field without limitations once camp begins later this summer for the Tigers.

“He’s gonna be able to do full summer stuff,” Kiffin said Thursday. “ I don’t know what the exact date is, but yes, he’s going to be able to do full stuff in the summer.”

Leavitt was the No. 1 player in the transfer portal this offseason, headlining a massive class of transfers for the Tigers this offseason. At Arizona State, Leavitt played in 20 games for the Sun Devils, throwing for 4,513 yards, 34 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

While there is a makeover of the roster at LSU with Kiffin now in charge, there is enough top-end talent that it's not crazy to believe the Tigers could compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff this season, should things break the right way. However, they're going to need Leavitt to be fully healthy in order for that to happen, so getting him back on the field sooner, rather than later, is crucial.
