LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The Detroit Tigers High-A affiliate of the West Michigan Whitecaps were in town taking on the Lansing Lugnuts, with Whitecaps escaping game one of the series, with a 7-5 win.
After West Michigan took the early lead, Lansing’s Dylan Fien hit a solo home-run to right field to tie the game at one in the first inning.
In the bottom of the third, Fien would hit another ball deep to right as it would fall right inside the wall, allowing Gunner Gouldsmith to score giving the Lugnuts the 2-1 lead. Later in the inning Devin Taylor would hit a hard grounder to first and after the Whitecaps struggled coming up with it, Fien would score to put Lansing up 3-1.
The Whitecaps would score five unanswered runs between the top of the fourth and top of the seventh, giving them a boost but the Lugnuts would respond back in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Bobby Boser would hit a RBI single to center and Fien would hit a RBI single to right, bringing home Gouldsmith to pull the Lugnuts within one.
Just when Lansing got close, West Michigan would once again pull away off the bat of Andrew Sojka who would knock in the final run of the game.
