Luis Figo shared his perspective on Real Madridâs current situation and the broader football landscape while speaking at the Laureus World Sports Awards, touching on pressure, expectations, and emerging talent.
The former Real Madrid winger pointed to recent changes on the bench as a key factor behind the clubâs inconsistency.
âReal Madrid has changed coaches, and that has brought instability,â Figo said. âPeople are always looking for someone to blame, but Iâm not in the dressing room.
âBeing one of the best teams in the world, if you donât win titles in two years, alarm bells start ringing. Thatâs just how Madrid is; theyâre used to winning,â he explained.
At the same time, he acknowledged the reality of modern football, where competition at the highest level is stronger than ever.
âBut you canât always win in football; it would be very monotonous, and there are other big teams with high aspirations,â Figo added. âAt Madrid, the noise is always louder.
âThe players always try to win; losing is worse. It doesnât make sense for the dressing room to create problems when you feel so much better when you win,â he said.
Figo also spoke about individual talent across Europe, singling out Bayern Munichâs Michael Olise for praise after a standout season.

âMichael Olise is an incredible player who made the difference in the tie and is having an amazing year. Heâll soon be one of the favorites to win the Ballon dâOr individually, although the teamâs performance also counts. Itâs a positive surprise,â he said.
However, when asked about the possibility of Olise joining Real Madrid, Figo downplayed the likelihood of a move.
âIt will be difficult for him to join Real Madrid; heâs already at a very big club in Europe, and it will be complicated for him to leave,â Figo noted. âItâs clear that he was one of Bayernâs best signings in relation to what he cost.â
