Former CONI Chief Giovanni Malagò has officially confirmed that he will run for the FIGC Presidency after receiving the endorsement of the Lega Serie B: âI will file my candidacy tomorrowâ.
Malagò is one of the two leading candidates, along with Giancarlo Abete, in the running for the currently-vacant role of FIGC President. Former FIGC chief Gabriele Gravina stepped down from the role immediately after Italyâs failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup at the end of March.
Despite the fact that he has met with representatives from the Lega Serie A, Serie B, Serie C, the LND (Amateur Leagues), the playersâ association and the coachesâ association, Malagò has only formally confirmed that he will be running for the FIGC Presidency on Tuesday night.

âI can confirm that tomorrow morning, I will file my candidacy for the presidency of the football federation,â Malagò told guests at a charity dinner organised by the Lega Serie A (via La Gazzetta dello Sport).
Giovanni Malagò is the former Chief of CONI and is now running for the FIGC Presidency.
Gabriele Gravina resigned following Italy's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The main candidates for the FIGC Presidency are Giovanni Malagò and Giancarlo Abete.

Malagòâs announcement came following the confirmation that he will have the endorsement of the Lega Serie B. Malagò already had the backing of the Lega Serie A, the playersâ association and the coachesâ association, which means that with the support of the Lega Serie B, he now expected to have a clear majority of the electoral votes.
Below is the share of votes that each body will have at the upcoming FIGC Presidential election:
Lega Serie A: 20 delegates, 18% of votes
Lega Serie B: 20 delegates, 6% of votes
Lega Pro (Serie C): 57 delegates, 12% of votes
LND (Amateur Leagues): 99 delegates, 34% of votes
Playersâ association: 52 delegates, 20% of votes
Coachesâ association : 26 delegates, 10% of votes
