Stats site Squawka noted something very interesting from the first half of Chelsea’s game against Man City, which has been pretty balanced overall.
“Manchester City completed 344 passes in the first half, the most by a visiting team at Stamford Bridge in the opening half of a Premier League game on record (since 2003/04),” they wrote on Twitter.
It’s interesting – you’d expect that sort of record to be set in a game where Chelsea have been terrible. But in fact they’ve had the better of the chances, and have defended well. They’ve been deep, but not under siege. They need to keep threatening on the break to keep the opposition honest, and certainly can’t cede any more of the initiative.
We wonder what those stats will say by full time? A draw is no good for City, so they’re bound to take more risks themselves. We could be in for a much more intense second period if there’s an early goal.
Liam Rosenior was a little annoyed by his team’s imprecision in the first half. If they’d been a little smarter on the ball, City’s passing would not have been so dominant.
Marcos Senesi looks to be a top Chelsea target for this summer, and there’s been an update on our interest in him.
