Man City could win Givairo Read transfer race before summer window opens if one thing happens
Manchester City are concretely in the race for Givairo Read this summer, Christian Falk reports.
This could complicate Bayern Munich’s plans to sign the right-back, as they look to keep down the price for the Feyenoord man.
The Bavarians had been hoping to spend in the region of €30m [£26.1m] for the 19-year-old.
It’s been well-established that the Sky Blues are also in the market for a right-back this summer.
This comes as part of an ongoing squad rebuild, with a number of key stars potentially set to depart (perhaps including Bernardo Silva and Rodri).
**“It is TRUE: Manchester City have joined the race for Givairo Read and are prepared to go toe-to-toe with Bayern Munich. It’s a hard punch for Bayern Munich, as they’ve known the player for a long time. They were in talks, they want him, and they’d like to bring him to Munich. But if the price rises, then things are getting difficult, as they don’t really want to pay more than €30m. For Bayern Munich, that’s a lot of money for a right back,”**Falk exclusively informed .

“If Manchester City were to come to the table and make a bid, this could complicate things for the club. FC Bayern do want to sign Read, but they don’t absolutely need him, to be honest. They have many players who can play this position, like Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić. There are options, and perhaps they’ll think it might be a better plan to spend the bulk of the available money on the frontline. We’ll see!”
The fact remains that Pep Guardiola’s men have still yet to replace out-and-out fullback Kyle Walker.

Matheus Nunes has filled in diligently as an auxiliary right-back, but it seems that City are keen on securing a specialist in the role this summer.
Bayern Munich have also been forced into making uncomfortable decisions at right-back.
The signing of Sacha Boey ultimately proved to be a failure, but Konrad Laimer (traditionally a midfielder) has proved exceptional in the role. Likewise, the Bavarian giants can also rely on Josip Stanišić to file out in the position if need be.
Ideally, of course, both player and club would prefer to be able to utilise Laimer’s talents in the middle of the park.
If City interest in the defender is set to raise his price-tag beyond the €30m, however, things could get complicated.
