It wasn't a classic FA Cup final and took a long time to get going with City coming the closest to opening the scoring in the 27th minute when Matheus Nunes squared the ball for Erling Haaland to net but the Portuguese full-back was offside when he received the ball.
Shortly after that Robert Sánchez needed to be alert as Haaland drilled a shot that the goalkeeper got in the way of. The City striker is still surprisingly without a goal at Wembley.
The lack of creativity on the pitch was addressed at half-time by Pep Guardiola who brought on Rayan Cherki for the ineffective Omar Marmoush.
City had the best chance shortly after the restart when Antoine Semenyo headed over from close range.
That was a chance that the forward really should have buried but he netted the winner with a far more difficult chance. Haaland put in a low ball that Semenyo flicked into the corner in what was a superb improvised finish.
Chelsea struggled to create clear-cut chances but had a great one shortly after conceding when Levi Colwill flicked the ball on before couldn't keep his effort down.

The Citizens almost found a second when Nunes tried to put in a low cross that took a deflection that diverted it towards goal with Sánchez getting just enough of a touch to ensure the ball instead hit the post.
Calum McFarlane had put the trio of Pedro Neto, Liam Delap, and Alejandro Garnacho on in the final 15 minutes but Chelsea still couldn't find a way through. Instead City won their eight FA Cup to complete a domestic cup double this season.
