The hosts’ lead only lasted for 107 seconds, following an error from Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian took a loose touch and Kai Havertz took advantage to prod the ball home.
Both sides pushed to take the lead before half-time but could not get the breakthrough.
Abdukodir Khusanov made a vital block to prevent Havertz from close-range before Piero Hincapie replicated the same at the other end.
The final score was Manchester City 2, Arsenal 1.
Manchester City is now three points behind Arsenal but has one game in hand.
