United welcome their fierce rivals to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, knowing a win will seal a place in next season’s Champions League.
The Red Devils enter the clash in good form after back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Brentford, with Carrick having overseen nine victories in 13 games as interim manager.
Ahead of Sunday’s showdown, Carrick confirmed that Matheus Cunha and Luke Shaw are both in contention to feature. However, the Liverpool game will come too soon for Matthijs de Ligt.
“We are in good shape really. Matheus [Cunha] has done a little bit of work, so we are hopeful,” Carrick said at his pre-match press conference.
“With Luke [Shaw], we aren’t sure if he will be ready but we are hopeful. Matthijs [de Ligt] is still a little bit further, he won’t be involved in the game. Other than that, we are in good shape.”
