Mancini becomes Roma’s second-best goalscoring defender
Last night’s match against Fiorentina was a match that was never in doubt.
Roma, who came out aggressively to try to make up ground on Como, Juventus, and Milan, made their mark immediately, and after just over 20 minutes, they were already 3-0 up against Vanoli’s team.
The opening goal was Gianluca Mancini’s header, left culpably alone by the Viola defense.
Pisilli’s perfect cross was met by the Giallorossi’s number 23, who, after his goal at San Siro against Inter, also scored his first home goal of the season.
With his goal in yesterday’s match, the former Atalanta player has become the second-best defender in Roma history in terms of goals scored. Having overtaken Aldair with 20, Mancini, now on 21, trails leader Panucci with 31.
At least ten more goals are needed, but with a contract renewal seemingly imminent, the record could one day be reached.
Roma, with an official statement, congratulated their player as follows: “With 21 goals, Mancini has overtaken the Italian champion Aldair (20), who like Mancini was a central defender. In first place is Panuncci with 31 goals. Also on the table with 19 goals are another Italian champion – Sebino Nela – and Aleksandar Kolarov, then Vincent Candela and with 16 goals (since Alessandro was deployed as a right back, in the Champions League in Moscow against CSKA in 2014).”
Gianluca Mancini is now Roma's second-best goalscoring defender.
Roma led Fiorentina 3-0 within the first 20 minutes of the match.
Mancini scored his goal with a header, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Fiorentina.
