Seattle Mariners closer right-hander Andres Munoz has not been himself this season, as he has helped allow the San Diego Padres to walk it off on Wednesday. The two-time All-Star (2024 and 2025) went 0.2 of an inning, allowing four hits, five earned runs, one walk, and striking out one.
Munoz told Seattle Times reporter Ryan Divish after struggling once again that “I need to find myself.” Divish added that Munoz admitted that he’s struggling with the “execution” of his slider, with it not feeling right coming out of his hand.
In seven games, Munoz is 2-2 with a 9.45 ERA and has one save in 6.2 innings.
A three-pitch pitcher, with a slider, four-seam fastball, and sinker, Munoz's arsenal of pitches has proven to get opposing hitters out. However, this season has proven to be the opposite, with opposing hitters teeing off against his four-seamer (.600 batting average/1.200 slugging percentage) and sinker (.667/.667).
