The pitching rotation is so deep, and there's even more depth to come. That puts Logan Gilbert in a fascinating position, wrote ESPN's David Schoenfield in a new article on Monday.
The premise of Schoenfield's take is this: Gilbert could actually be traded this season.
It sounds shocking on paper, but Schoenfield actually lays out a compelling case.
"He won't reach free agency until after the 2027 season, but there's a potential scenario where Gilbert is available even if it's not an 'everything has gone wrong' scenario," Schoenfield writes. "Emerson Hancock has remade his repertoire and lowered his arm slot, and he now looks like an above-average starter. If Bryce Miller gets healthy and Kade Anderson continues to dominate in the minors, the Mariners might have enough rotation depth to make a splashy deal here."

Gilbert, though, wouldn't necessarily be moved for just that solution -- although he'd certainly be able to get a major one.
If the Mariners did indeed move Gilbert, you'd think they'd want multiple pieces back, including a promising prospect along with MLB-ready talent.
It's not an immediately looming trade by any means, but now that the idea has been raised, it'll be interesting to see if any chatter picks up around Gilbert as the season goes along.
