Mason Greenwoodâs surprise omission from the starting XI in Olympique de Marseilleâs 1-1 draw against OGC Nice on Sunday evening may not be solely due to fitness concerns, but originating from tensions with manager Habib Beye â according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Head coach Habib Beye told reporters post-match that the English forwardâs absence was a âprecautionary decisionâ citing a lingering thigh issue sustained in recent weeks.
âSince the start of the week, weâve been monitoring him. He is very limited by the injury from Lille. He has played the last two matches with significant pain, we cannot put him in danger,â said the Marseille manager, speaking following the match at a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
However, the situation may be more complex. The outlet claims that Greenwood has been involved in âfrictionsâ with Beye during training sessions this week, potentially contributing to his place on the bench.
In addition, RMC Sport report that the forward has also been the subject of criticism from within the Marseille dressing room this week. Some teammates are said to have questioned his defensive contribution and perceived individualism, accusing him of not always working for the team.
