During the Masters 2026, caddie Michael Greller became agitated on the 15th green due to concerns about Jordan Spieth's line of sight while preparing for a birdie putt. Greller has been caddying for Spieth since 2013, ensuring optimal conditions for his performance.
AUGUSTA, Ga. â There are ride-or-die caddies, and then there is Michael Greller, who has caddied for Jordan Spieth since he turned professional in 2013. And the former middle school math teacher has the grey hairs to prove it.
Greller took his latest ride on the Spieth-coaster Thursday at the Masters, where the 2015 winner is trying to win his first major championship in nearly nine years. Despite the drought, Greller keeps showing up and keeping up. And, more importantly, making sure his boss man has an optimal environment to perform in.
Apparently, Greller felt that that was not the case on the par-5 15th hole in the opening round, which took more than a few souls throughout the day. Spieth hit his second shot in the right greenside bunker, then hit a mediocre shot, by his standards, to 30 feet. As he prepared to hit his birdie putt, Greller noticed something in the background he felt may have affected Spieth's line of sight. And he wasn't having it.
What made him so "agitated," asked a reporter after Spieth's round.
"Guy was repairing the divot on 16 and he didn't see. It was like -- I'm not really bothered by much," Spieth said. "I don't really care normally about people, I care about like wind and stuff like that. I don't really care about people or noise.
"But it was like right when I'm looking up I was just seeing white just move. So I was like I just -- he didn't hear -- normally I would be like, hey, Mikey and then he normally says it and it's not an issue. He didn't hear him.
"No big deal. Still got into it and when I hit the putt I thought I hit the putt I wanted."
Unfortunately, the putt came up about five feet short, and Spieth missed the ensuing par putt. He remained unmoved by the situation, blaming the whole thing on himself.
"Hit a bad second putt, but no, it wasn't -- it was just -- that happens every week, something like that."
