Rory McIlroy fired the lowest round for a defending champion Friday and also has the largest 36-hole lead in Masters history, so heās a short -251 favorite to don the green jacket and be the first back-to-back winner at Augusta National since Tiger Woods won consecutive years in 2001 and 2002.
As a result, Iām looking at the finishing position Masters odds for my Round 3 Masters picks, and there is a trio of players set to have solid weekends.
| Golfer | Pick | |
|---|---|---|
| Brooks Koepka | Top 10 | 43Ā¢ +123 |
| Ludvig Aberg | Top 20 | 58Ā¢ -168 |
| Russell Henley | Top 20 | 44Ā¢ +101 |
With a Top 20 ticket on Brooks Koepka already in the books following the opening round, Iām looking to ladder him with a second Top 10 bet at plus-money odds.
Heās 10th in true strokes gained tee-to-green and seventh on approaches through two rounds, and heās also gained on and around the greens.
The course is likely to just become firmer and faster, especially on the greens, and Koepka's experience in major championships and at Augusta National isnāt being priced into this number enough.
There was a bounceback in Round 2 from Ludvig Aberg, and while he still lost true strokes on the greens, he hit 15 of 18 greens in regulation and has paced the field in true strokes gained on approaches through 36 holes.
Aberg will be in a super group with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in Round 3, so I like the two to feed off one another, and both go low. With such a high ball flight and dialed-in iron play, the Swede wonāt be as susceptible to the likelihood of firmer and faster greens Saturday, either.
Russell Henley bogeyed the final two holes in Round 2 to give us a great price for him to finish Top 20, and Iām encouraged with his ball-striking going into the weekend after finishing eighth in true strokes gained on approaches Friday.
Additionally, his only real shortcoming the first two days was uncharacteristically losing true strokes around-the-green, so with a little tidier wedge work, heās positioned to card his fourth career Top 20 at Augusta National.
