Real Salt Lake earned a valuable three points in a 4-2 win at home in front of 20,852 fans Saturday night at America First Field, powered by rookie striker Sergi Solansâ first professional brace. The result extends RSLâs unbeaten streak to six matches as the club continues to build momentum early in its 2026 MLS campaign.
Solans, Luna spark historic first-half surge as RSL overwhelms San Diego
Real Salt Lake wasted no time asserting control, delivering one of the fastest and most dominant attacking starts in team history. The breakthrough came just five minutes into the match, when USA World Cup hopeful Diego Luna capitalized on a San Diego miscue, pouncing on a misplaced pass from goalkeeper Duran Ferree and firing a first-time finish to open the scoring. Just 90 seconds later, Luna turned provider, whipping in a dangerous cross that Solans powered home with a header to double the lead and stun San Diego early.
Despite a brief response from San Diego through Marcus Ingvartsen in the 14th minute, RSLâs attacking momentum never slowed. Luna and Solans continued to combine dangerously, nearly adding another before the 15-minute mark, while and the midfield unit consistently stretched the back line. The breakthrough moment of the half arrived in the 38th minute, when delivered a pinpoint cross to Solans, who headed home his second of the night â and his team-leading fifth in the last five games â to secure his first professional brace and restore RSLâs two-goal cushion.

The Claret-and-Cobalt capped off a relentless first half just before the break, as Solans turned creator, finding Guilavogui in stride for a composed first-time finish to make it 4-1. The explosive start marked just the fourth time in club history RSL has scored multiple goals in the opening 10 minutes, and their four first-half goals were the most since June 1, 2024. The performance not only showcased the growing chemistry between Luna and Solans, but also highlighted RSLâs ability to punish mistakes and maintain pressure at an elite level.

Cabralâs late performance
Real Salt Lake continued to press in the second half, nearly extending its lead in the 50th minute when Gozo set up Guilavogui, whose first-time strike hit the post. Two minutes later, Solans tested the goalkeeper from distance, but his effort was saved to keep the score at 4-1. San Diego pulled one back in the 62nd minute as Anders Dreyer converted a penalty, making it 4-2 and briefly shifting momentum.
RSL weathered the late push behind goalkeeper Rafael Cabral, who delivered a series of crucial saves, including stops in the 86th and 87th minutes. Cabral capped off his performance in stoppage time, bravely denying a dangerous corner with his face to preserve the 4-2 victory.
