Fitzpatrick endured a minor blip during the early stages of his third round at the RBC Heritage, but he fought back incredibly well on the back nine to post a score of 68.
Meanwhile, Scheffler turned up the heat on the Englishman by firing a superb 64 on Saturday at Harbour Town Golf Links.

A real buzz of excitement began to reverberate around the golf course, and Matt Fitzpatrick would definitely have been aware of the world number one’s charge through the field.
The American and the Englishman will be in the final group together at Harbour Town on Sunday, and both players will be happy with that pairing.
Scottie Scheffler is a huge admirer of Matt Fitzpatrick and he spoke very highly about the 32-year-old from Sheffield on Saturday night.

However, there will be no time for friendly chat between Fitzpatrick and Scheffler on Sunday. Both players are desperate to win the golf tournament and it should be a titanic tussle on Hilton Head Island.
Fitzpatrick spoke to reporters after his third round at the RBC Heritage and responded when asked whether he expects a pro-Scheffler crowd on Sunday.

“Yeah, yeah, 100 percent,“ he said.
*“*We’re in America, so I wouldn’t expect any different. Yeah, they’ve got to support their guy, and that’s totally fine.
*“*As long as they don’t shout in my backswing, then they can do whatever they want. But I have a lot of people that support me this week, as well, and just looking forward to it.
“Scottie is a great guy, and looking forward to playing with him tomorrow.“
Fitzpatrick was asked if he will enjoy tussling with Scheffler on Sunday at Harbour Town or whether he will stay in his own lane.
“No, just stay in my own lane, you know,“ Fitzpatrick said.
*“*You know, just take a little bit of advice from Rory and, you know, stay in your own world and concentrate on what I’m doing and my scores.
*“*I feel like I’m going to go out there and enjoy it tomorrow, regardless.
“I’m playing, you know, my favourite golf course and I’m in great shape. I’ve just got to keep hitting the shots I’ve been hitting and we’ll see what it brings.“
Matt Fitzpatrick is absolutely right. He just needs to concentrate on his own game on Sunday at the RBC Heritage, rather than worrying about what world number one Scottie Scheffler is doing.
After all, the Englishman is in total control of his ball right now and, indeed, the tournament.
