Max Muncy was robbed of extra bases during a game against the Braves when Eli White made a spectacular catch. Muncy later hit a two-run homer, but the Dodgers lost the game.
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy jokingly shared his thoughts after a spectacular play robbed him of extra bases Sunday.
Muncy stepped up to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth with the Dodgers trailing by four runs. He scorched a ball to right field on a full count, forcing a ridiculous jumping catch out of Eli White which sent the right fielder crashing into the wall.
The lineout had a .954 expected batting average, and would have been a home run in four MLB stadiums: The Reds’ Great American Ballpark, the Tigers’ Comerica Park, the Yankees’ Yankee Stadium and the Phillies Citizen’s Bank Park.
“Who do I gotta pay off at this point?” Muncy said of the play.
Rather than three runs coming to score, the Dodgers posted another goose egg and didn’t score until the eighth, when the game had just about been put out of reach. Muncy drove in the Dodgers’ only two runs of the game with a two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth—his 10th homer of the season.
“We have some guys that aren’t in the spot that they want to be in right now, and they’re trying to figure that out,” Muncy said. “It’s kind of tough to compete when you’re trying to figure things out. We’ve preached that in the past sometimes, that you got to just forget about everything you’re doing off the field, and when you get in the batter’s box, you just have to compete.”
Max Muncy was robbed of extra bases by Eli White's incredible catch, which prevented a potential home run.
Max Muncy drove in the Dodgers' only two runs with a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
Muncy's lineout would have been a home run in the Reds', Tigers', Yankees', and Phillies' stadiums.

The Dodgers have struggled to score runs consistently throughout the last several weeks, with most of their losses coming when they score three runs or fewer. Against the Braves over the weekend, they failed to score more than three runs in any of the three games.
They struggled the most in the final game of the series, recording just two hits: Andy Pages’ single in the first inning and Muncy’s homer.
Shohei Ohtani, while not the biggest issue, has caught attention for his struggles since the middle of April. He has just four hits in 31 at-bats during May, and is yet to hit a home run this month. He has just one long ball since April 13, which came against the Chicago Cubs April 26.
The Dodgers have occasionally exploded for double-digit runs over the past few weeks, scoring 1 on the Astros just last week, but their rough patch clearly has stuck with them.
