Tosin Adarabioyo is not the most popular Chelsea player among fans â in fact, most cringe when they see him on the teamsheet.
But he did a great job today, as anyone who watched the match will tell you. After the game, interim coach Calum McFarlane was asked about why he had picked the former Fulham defender, and for once was willing to give an interesting and detailed answer.
âItâs a really good question, and it was one of the most difficult decisions in the preparation for this game, because Jorrel Hato has been probably our best player over the last five, six games,â McFarlane said.
âBut I decided to go with Tosin, mainly down to the Dominic Calvert-Lewin threat, and probably being the best match-up to defend that.â
The interim coach also had other reasons for why he had picked the tallest of his defensive options:
âAlso set-pieces is a massive part of their game, Tosinâs a great leader, a great character, I fully trust Jorrel, and Jorrel could have played in this game, as could Wesley Fofana, so you make decisions as a manager, and you hope you get them right, and I thought Tosin was exceptional today.â
The Blues stayed in the game in the second half thanks to some smart saves from Robert Sanchez, including this one from Joe Rodon.
